3/31/2015 7:21:48 AM by 260 Admin

Harry Lombardo, TWU International President, Made a commitment at our 24th Constitutional Convention to empower the membership and support the locals.

The survey is being mailed out to you in the next several days by the International. This survey which Harry believes is critically important and is meant to gain feedback on how the International communicates and prioritizes the needs of the members as well as gauge the issues and interests of importance to you.

Harry is requesting that all members fill out and return the survey once they receive it. In addition, the survey can also be completed online at www.twusurvey.com. Their goal is for each Local to have at least a 25% participation rate and he is confident we can see those results. As an incentive to participate, those filling out the survey will become eligible to win merchandise from ShopTWU.com

I would like to begin by saying “thank you” to each and every one of you, for your continued support, and a job well done.  The accomplishments in 2014 could not have been a success without the team effort from all of you.

I would also like to be the first to share with you that the Executive board have elected to move forward with Metro to start Contact Negotiations early.  Should you desire additional information or have any questions, please do not hesitate to call me.

Horace J. Marves

TWU Texas State Conference Community Service Project
8/27/2014 1:23:10 PM by 260 Admin

On Saturday, August 23, 2014, The TWU Texas State Conference went to the Houston Food Bank (HFB) to volunteer as a part of our commitment to making a difference in our community through community service.  As a state conference, it is important to stay politically active, and make a difference in working families households.  To make a difference also means to give back to our communities.

The HFB is a nonprofit organization that collects and distributes food to hunger relief charities. The food that is distributed usually comes from various sources and wholesalers that have thousands of food to give away that would normally be thrown away. The HFB uses this partnership to further their mission to end hunger in the areas they serve.  Their belief is that no one should ever go wanting for food in a country so rich in resources.  In the fiscal year 2013-2014 the HFB distributed 59 million nutritious meals, food, and other necessities.  By the year 2018, the mission is to distribute 100 million meals and necessities to those in need.

Thank You, Brother John Bland, Terry Daniels, and Andrew Rangolan for your support and hard work at the HFB. The support received from TWU Local 260, Local 556, and their families and friends is greatly appreciated.

Thank You TWU International for your support!

In Unity,
TWU Texas State Conference Chair
LaTonia Benoit

TWU Honors MLK's Legacy Through Community Service
3/5/2014 12:05:20 PM by 260 Admin

At the TWU’s 1961 Constitutional Convention, Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. told our delegates that he drew inspiration in the fight for civil rights from their independence of mind: "I want to say a word about your President, Mike Quill, and some of your other leaders whom I have met. There is a special quality in them which is found in the spirit of this union itself. It is a quality of independence.” He continued, “Your crusading spirit, which broke through the open shop stronghold, also broke through the double walled citadels of race prejudice."

Our union’s work with MLK was born out of our shared commitment to justice, dignity, and equal treatment for all Americans. Every year in January, the TWU honors Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.’s legacy by taking part in community service projects and engaging with our brothers and sisters from labor unions across the country at the AFL-CIO’s Civil and Human Rights Conference in San Antonio, TX.
